American Bach Revisited

Featuring J. S. Bach Cello Suites I and III, and Chicago Suite.

With its roots based deeply in African traditions, the banjo brings an unheralded reverence and a harpsichord timbre to the Bach melodies along with an at once intimate and driving Americana sensibility. The cello, by the renowned Jill Kaeding, provides grandeur in the unchartered world of this collaboration with the rich implicit harmony below. The “Chicago Suite,” also featured on American Bach Revisited, is Miles’ original instrumental portrait of specific Chicago streets and alleys, the city Miles has always called home.

A remarkable feat, my first reaction to his playing was a smile, and then amazement.
